I’m a strong possibility for this. I may have others interested. What are the weight classes?

For example:
-  Score 1 point for a hit to the body only with hands, knees and elbows etc (standing and on ground);
-  Score 2 points for kick to the face while standing;
-  Take downs and throws score 1 or 3 points according to the quality and altitude of the throw;
·  A bout may be scored either by the referee alone or by the referee with the assistance of two judges.
·  The referee will indicate points that are scored during the bout by using the ravdos (referee’s stick).
·  Where the referee is being assisted by judges, the judges will record the points scored as indicated by the referee during the bout.  They may also award additional points for techniques that they believe the referee did not see.  At the end of the bout, they will each hand their tallies to the referee.
·  Where there is a draw, the final decision will be made by a sudden death match, where the first competitor who scores a point will be declared the winner.
·  Where any illegal technique is used (see above), the competitor will forfeit 1 point to their opponent for the first offence.  Subsequent offences will lead to disqualification.
·  Where a competitor escapes the mat or is forced off the mat, they will forfeit 1 point to their opponent for each time they flee the mat

Hey Alex,

Last year at the aus titles I competed in a pair of muay thai shorts and no top, is the clothing rule new?

Is it possible to wear the muay shorts and a surf rashie, I hate that bjj logo stuff?

Cheers,
Terry

Terry,
Muay shorts and a surf rashie is fine + the minimum protective gear as outlined earlier

The rules have not changed… there were always rules around attire, the AFPA did not enforce the attire rules in the past.

Since joining the AFPA committee, I will be making sure we move forward with all that is required in making the competition(s) well run, safe and enjoyable for all competitors and spectators

cheers
Alex

Thanks Alex, I likes me lucky Thai shorts smile

Mate you seem to have the organising under control, good stuff. While I’m at it could you email me last years results from the nationals as I never got a full copy, particularly the u85kg which I won as I need it for grading validation.

Looking forward to a good comp year.

Cheers,
Terry

Figure Four,

We have received good interest for the competition. Regardless I would love to see more athlete/competitors take part… it makes a good competition.

Note the competition is for amateur athletes only. All professional athletes MUST not compete. The competition is a stepping stone for amateur athletes who seek further tournament experience & sparring practise.

All amateur athletes/competitor will be matched up upon experience.

Hope to see you at the competition

cheers

Hey All,

Just as a follow up this comp is a really great day all round. It is a great way for grapplers and strikers to test themselves without the full on cage pressure.

Good luck to all,

Terry

Could someone clarify what makes a fighter a pro? do they have to fight on the big shows or simply get paid?

MMA Fun,

Professional athletes usually receive financial payment for each bout and/or are registered with NSW Combat Authority.

Additionally the amateur competition rules are different from the professional competition rules…

Cheers
