3 scheduled Title Fights

After 10 years in Sydney, its time to sell up and move back to Melbourne.  I am looking for a training centre to train Gi / No Gi & MMA.  Working in the CBD, and would like access to some morning classes.  Looking at the website for the above mentioned centre, it appears to offer a good range of classes at a very reasonable price ($770 per annum).  Not in a position to travel outside of the CBD for training but if a school is near Sunshine area, would look at commuting at night (after hours).

Does anyone train, have traiing at Melbourne Martial Arts centre that can give me some feed back.  If so, what are the size of the guys training as I am 6ft 2inche and weigh 110kgs.  Experienced with 2 years wrestling / shooto with Larry P at Spartan Gym and about 18 months with Luke P at Lions Den.

A veteran of over 20 pro MMA fights, Kyle Noke (17-4-1) was a favorite to win his season of the “Ultimate Fighter”. While Noke came up just short on the show, he came back at the season finale show and blasted through former housemate Josh Bryant with a 2nd round TKO.

Training full time with Greg Jackson’s camp in New Mexico, Noke is currently riding a three fight win streak as he looks to keep moving forward as he fights in Germany in November.

Rob Kimmons (23-5) makes his sixth appearance in the UFC when he returns to action in November. Currently sporting a 3-2 record in the Octagon, Kimmons is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Steve Steinbeiss in his last fight in early August.

Competition Entry Fee (covering insurance): Open to Amateur Athletes Only – individual and team/school
$45 – Non registered with Australian Federation Pankration Athlima (AFPA)
$30 – Registered with Australian Federation Pankration Athlima
1 coach free entry with either team or individual. To be nominated at weight-in or with competition form

All competitors must become members of the AFPA, if already not.

No competition entries will be accepted after Monday 2nd August

Weigh in Registrations:
·  9:00am Sunday 8th August - For all athletes registered before Monday 2nd August

·  Athletes who do not meet their nominated weight at the weigh-in, will compete in the weight class at weigh-in, or be disqualified

·  No walk-in registrations or walk-in weigh-in will occur on Sunday 8th August

Spectators:
$10 - Adults; above 18
$5 - Children; under 13-17
Free -  Kids; under 13
$20 - Family; 2 adults & 2 Children

All competitors or representatives must check the brackets at least ½ hour before their designated start time and advise the head table of any needed corrections.

10:15 am – Adult men and Women’s 2010 Australian National Championship Tournament

Australian Champion Medals for 1st, 2nd 3rd per division
Team Award for Top Club

Divisions:
Licensed professional fighters are NOT eligible to compete.
All divisions are geared towards intermediate to advanced competitors

Adult Men (18 years and over)
One Skill level; 9 Weight classes;
Special Award for Champions

Adult Women (18 years and over)
One Skill level; 5 Weight classes;
Special Award for Champions

Cadets (14-15 years)
Two Skill level; 6 Weight classes;
Special Award for Champions

Juniors (16-17 years)
Two Skill level; 6 Weight classes;
Special Award for Champions

Duration of Matches:
Novice matched - one 3 minute period
Experienced matches - one 5 minute period

Mandatory Equipment:
·  All Athletes must compete with MMA Style Gloves, a mouthpiece, cup and shin guards.  MMA Style gloves will be provided to athletes without their own.

·  Other protective gear is optional: Elbow pads & Kneepads. No wrestling or martial arts shoes will be permitted.

·  MMA Fight Shorts with Rash guard is the recommended uniform.

·  Athletes may also compete in traditional martial arts attire, shorts or sweat tops without open pockets or metal, tight fitting T-Shirt or wrestling singlet. No athlete to be permitted without a top

Important Tournament Information:
·  All athletes and coaches must know and understand the rules of the tournament. A rules demo will be conducted 10:00am Sunday 8th August

·  Competitors may have a maximum of two coaches mat side. Coaches must stay in the designated area on the mat. No cameras are allowed in the coaching area. Any violations may result in penalties against their fighter or removal from the tournament.

·  All disrespectful conduct to include that of coaches will result in immediate disqualification from the tournament. Disrespectful conduct includes arguing with referees and officials and intentionally trying to injure your opponent.

He was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1985 and moved to Australia in 1987. Ivo began Judo in 1991 and competed through the junior levels with a lot of success. He made his first Australian Senior in 2004 and won his first senior National Championship in 2007 and senior Oceania Championship in 2008. He narrowly missed selection for the Beijing Olympics, most recently Ivo won his 2nd National Championship and is now focused on London in 2010.

Ivo is going to make his MMA debut at the end of September on the Style Wars card in Melbourne and has agreed to do a blog for us leading up to this fight

With a nickname like Carnage it’s easy to see how local mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Gokhan Turkyilmaz, 24, could be seen as a tough guy.

The aircraft maintenance engineer moved to Townsville two years ago to work with 5th Aviation Regiment, which is when he took up MMA.

“Prior to moving here I was into professional kickboxing and muay thai in Sydney and the Gold Coast,” he said.
