George Sotiropoulos Diary at Yahoo 7

1 month, 3 weeks ago

Australian fighter George Sotiropoulos who will be taking on Joe Stevenson at UFC 110 in Sydney, has written an diary for Yahoo 7, as he prepares for his bout on the main card. The diary can be available at Yahoo 7 (in the cricket section?).

In the article Sotiropoulos comments “He’s (Stevenson) a ‘name’ fighter and one of the guys in the upper echelons of the UFC’s lightweight division. He has lots of experience behind him and is recognised by all mixed martial arts fans. A win over Stevenson brings me closer to becoming the first Aussie to ever get a title shot in the UFC”.

It was Elvis Sinosic who had the honour of becoming not only the first Australian to win in the UFC but also the first fighter to get a title shot in the UFC, when he faced and lost to Tito Ortiz at UFC 32 in June 2001. For Sotiropoulos a win over Stevenson will definitely put him in the mix for a title shot, however the shot might be some distance away with numerous fighters lining up to take away the belt from current champion, BJ Penn. Can anyone actually take it from Penn is another question.

Tony Bonello returns to MMA with KOTC Title Fight

1 month, 3 weeks ago

Tony Bonello looks to be making a return to MMA after an almost two year absence from the sport. Bonello will be fighting for the first title on offer, in King Of The Cage’s newly created Cruiserweight division (205lb’s-230lb’s). After making a quiet yet full return to the MMA scene late in 2008, following the EliteXC ownership disaster, the progressive King Of The Cage promotion have been making big promotional progress, with the company successfully expanding itself in to Canada and Japan, with plans of possibly expanding to Singapore next. Tony has yet to officially have his opponent named, but the title fight will take place on Febuary 12, 2010 King Of The Cage event, held at the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino, New Mexico, USA.

A win for Bonello would see him become the third Australian to currently own an International MMA title belt, joining Bellator champ Hector Lombard and Shooto Champ, Xavier Lucas. For event updates and discussion on Bonello and his KOTC title bout, head in to the forum area HERE and feel free to discuss.
