Yanz vs Turkyilmaz set for Brace For War 4
2 weeks, 2 days ago
Ryan Yanz will return to action at the Brace For War 4 event scheduled to happen at the Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre on 8 May, 2010 where he will be taking on Gokhan Turkyilmaz.
Both Yanz and Turkyilmaz appeared at the last Brace For War show in January, 2010 where Yanz defeated Ryan Byrne (see video) and Turyilmaz defeated Jay Cobain with both fights ending by TKO due to punches. Also on the card, Luke Hume will be taking on Nick Pudney and power-puncher Edwin Arana taking on a fighter to be announced.
After a sell-out show for the promotions first event in Townsville, the promoters have decided to postpone a return to Brisbane, in favour for another event in Townsville. Expect tickets to sell out for this one.
Veteran Peter Davis to take on Chris Bridgewater at Underground MMA 4
2 weeks, 2 days ago
Veteran Australian MMA fighter, Peter Davis will return to MMA action where he will take on Chris Bridgewater in the main event of Underground Cage Fighting Series 4 at the USQ Clive Berghofer Recreation Centre this Friday night.
Davis who first contested his first MMA bout in November, 2001 will be returning to action for the first time since August, 2008 and will be hoping to get a win on his record, after losing to Stuart Ashby, Gavin Murie and Roy Luxton in his last three bouts. Davis actually has a win over his opponent’s brother in Roy Bridgewater who he defeated with a Guillotine Choke in August, 2002.
Chris Bridgewater will be having his third fight in just as many months, with his last fight occurring in Townsville in January where he suffered a loss to Thomas Manderson via Guillotine Choke on the Brace For War 3 card. Both fighters will be making their debut for the Underground MMA promotion.
Anthony Perosh Scores New 4-Fight Contract With UFC
2 weeks, 3 days ago
Less than 48 hours after his second round TKO loss to Mirko Crocop, Australian MMA fighter Anthony Perosh has secured himself a brand new 4-fight deal with the UFC. Perosh took the bout with Crocop in the final couple of days leading in to the UFC 110 Australia event, as a last second replacement for a sick Ben Rothwell. After coming in to UFC 110 riding a 1-1 record against regional challengers in the past six months, the world class Brazilian Jiujitsu blackbelt should now see action throughout 2010 and early 2011, in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division. Anthony had previously stated that his goal coming in to 2010 was to rack up enough wins to get back in the UFC again, ironically it was a loss that secured him not only entry back in to the UFC, but a 4 fight deal. On behalf of the Aussie MMA community, we would like to wish Anthony all the best for the rest of 2010 & his return to the UFC.

Knees Of Fury 28 Event Review
2 weeks, 3 days ago
Headlining “Knees of Fury 28” was WBC Cruiserweight International Champion Charles August and 18 year old upstart from NSW, Cody Brooks. The large crowd in attendance were treated to a tactical 5-round display from each, as August surprisingly opted not to use his devastating punches & took the bout with a variety of jab/cross and jab/low kick combo’s. Cody’s corner clearly knew what type of threat they faced and as a result, his hands were glued to his head for the duration of the bout. Instead of countering and fighting off the back foot though, Brooks was forced to constantly move forward and initiate the action, as August sat on the outside and continually racked up the points with kicks to the legs. Each fighter landed a variety of punishing hooks and crosses through the bout, when they stepped inside and engaged, but the continual finishing of punch combo’s with scoring low kicks from August led him to a decisive 50-47 decision in the end.
Co-headlining the main card was Australian WMC champion Kym Johnson, taking on two time New Zealand WMC champ, Johan Voss. In a bout that most gave the advantage to Johnson, no one quite imagined the steam rolling that then took place. With the second kick to Voss’s leg almost buckling the Kiwi, the pace was set early in the bout as Kym continued to stick and move, landing almost every combination thrown. Late in the first round, Voss was caught flush with a right cross and downward elbow, sending him crashing to the canvas. Johan did well to beat the count & the end of round bell saved him. Round two lasted all of two low kicks though, before Voss’s leg was hacked out and he needed a full 8-count to get back up. Johnson then stepped in and faked a leg kick, only to motion the kick up high and drop the Kiwi with a flush head kick. Somehow managing to beat the 8-count again, Voss gamely continued on. It wasn’t to be though for the Kiwi, as he was dropped with another head kick seconds later, this time leaving him out on the canvas for a few minutes. It was another super impressive victory for Kym Johnson.
Australian WMC champion Gareth Rees made easy work of Perth’s Rob Powdrill. Rob was effective early with inside hook and uppercut combo’s, but looked to gas as early as halfway through the opening round. Rees jumped on the Western Australian fighter the moment he slowed down, using a variety of high/low combination’s to great effect. Late in the first round, Powdrill was getting his lead leg flogged and eventually had to take an 8-count. Round two was a similar story to the first, with Powdrill opening up well with nice hand combination’s, but this time gassing after about 30 seconds. As soon as Rees recognised the wind had left Rob’s sails, he laid on a plethora of punishing body rips, followed by moving in to the clinch and landing knee after knee. Late in the round Powdrill was dropped twice by right elbows, managing to re-compose himself before the 8-count on each occasion. The third round was total domination from Rees, as he ended the fight quickly with knees to the head, inside the clinch. Click HERE to read the rest of the event review

UFC 110 Results
2 weeks, 4 days ago
Apologies for the late UFC 110 Australia results news posting everyone, but all of our Infinite staff were either on media duties at the UFC, or other MMA/MuayThai Kickboxing events.
Opening up the undercard, Australian fighter James Te Huna had a fantastic come from behind victory, to defeat Croatian slugger Igor Pokrajac via 3rd round TKO. Next up CB Dolloway edged out Goran Reljic with a tight decision and perenial fan favourate Chris Lytle submitted Brian Foster with a first round kneebar. In a fight that will likely be overturned and called a “no contest”, Krzysztof Soszynski was awarded a 3rd round TKO against Stephan Bonnar, in a bout that was marred by horrible refereeing & eventually devolved in to a complete and utter farce of an ending, Bonnar left unable to continue after an accidental headbutt clash opened a fight ending cut.
Starting off the main card, Aussie fighter and late replacement Anthony Perosh lost against Mirko Crocop via R2 TKO, after the fight was waived off at the end of the second round. After a nearly boring the crowd to tears for two and a bit rounds, Ryan Bader stepped up and defeated Keith Jardine with an impressive third round knockout. In the fight of the night, Asutralian lightweight prospect George Sotiropoulos cemented himself as a title contender, with a dominating win over Joe Stevenson. The victory now leaves George likely only one fight away from a title shot. Wanderlei Silva continued the momentum next, putting on an impressively dominant performance against Michael Bisping. Wand had Bisping only a fraction of a second away from losing twice in the fight, the end of round horn the only thing saving him in the end. Rounding out the night was a career-first KO victory for the light handed Cain Velasquez, who crumbled a terribly slow and zombie-like looking Antonio Nogueira with a well timed 3-punch combo. Changes to UFC 110 Fight Card
2 weeks, 6 days ago
With only days to go till UFC 110 at Acer Arena there have been some changes to the UFC 110 fight card. Elvis Sinosic is unable to fight due to a shoulder injury and the fight between Elvis and Chris Haseman is off. I spoke with Elvis yesterday and he is very disappointed he can not compete on the UFC show. The UFC will not be replacing Elvis and Chris Haseman will not be fighting on this show.
Ben Rothwell has had to withdraw from his fight with Mirko Crocop due to illness and has been replaced by Anthony Perosh. Anthony took the fight on 2 days notice and when i spoke to him yesterday he said he was very excited about the chance to take on Mirko. Anthony had recently been training in Croatia helping Igor Pokrajic prepare for his fight with James Tehuna for UFC 110, so should be in good shape for this fight.
